Assistant/Associate Professor Science Education -Elementary/Middle School
APPOINTMENT:
Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Nine month tenure-track position
beginning August 18, 2010. Position is located at the Western Illinois
University Campus in Macomb.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate (ABD considered, but must
be completed within one year of hiring) in Curriculum and Instruction,
Elementary Education, or closely related field, with a specialization in early
elementary, elementary, or middle school science education from a regionally
accredited institution. Three years experience teaching science in an elementary
or middle school classroom is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years experience teaching science in a U.S. public or private K-8 grade
classroom; teaching science methods courses for undergraduate or graduate
teacher education candidates in a university setting; experience supervising
pre-student teaching field experiences; and experience in, or potential for,
research, scholarly activities, and professional involvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate science education
methods courses and supervise pre-student teaching field experiences. The
applicantmust have the ability to travel to teach at extension sites and
supervise candidates in area schools, communicate clearly, utilize technology in
instruction, engage in research and scholarly activities, and provide service to
the department, college, university, and profession. Active membership in
professional organizations and adherence to program, state, and national
certification accreditation criteria will be expected.
RANK & SALARY:
Assistant/Associate Professor. Salary commensurate with background and

THE DEPARTMENT:
The department offers undergraduate programs in early childhood and elementary
education and coursework leading to the middle level endorsement. In addition,
it grants the M.S. degree in Reading (K-12 Reading Specialist) and in Elementary
Education with areas of specialization in social studies education, early
childhood education, language and literature, multidisciplinary studies, and
science education. There are over 650 undergraduate and300 graduate majors
taught by 28 professionally active full-time faculty members. Our programs are
