Current Policy for the Journal of Science Teacher Education

  1. The Editorial Review Board shall consist of 40 members.
  2. The membership of the Editorial Review Board will be representative of the membership of ASTE as a whole.
  3. For 1996, a minimum of 7 members will be international (including Canada). By the year 2000, a minimum of 15 members will be from the international community.
  4. As vacancies occur, the Editor(s) will recommend to the Executive Committee individuals to serve on the Editorial Review Board. This can occur through email or FAX in order to expedite the process.

Terms of Office

  1. Editorial Review Board members will serve a 5-year term (years will be calendar years). Term expiration occurs on December 31st of their fifth year.
  2. Members' terms will be staggered so that each year, 7 members will replace 7 retiring members. The level of international representation will be considered as new members are appointed.
  3. If a member resigns or is unable to complete his or her term, the replacement (see policy item 4 above) will complete that person's term.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Read and evaluate manuscripts within his or her area of expertise.
  2. Provide written reports on manuscripts reviewed using the criteria and evaluation form format provided by the Editor(s).
  3. Review manuscripts in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  1. Competence in research and/or methodology within some aspects of science teacher education.
  2. Ability to judge the quality of a manuscript within several areas of science teacher expertise.
  3. Ability to identify particular strengths and weaknesses of a manuscript and, in a professional manner, to offer suggestions for revising manuscripts.
  4. Current membership in ASTE or a willingness to join if selected.
