The ASTE Professional Development Committee invites members to submit proposals for virtual professional development workshops to take place outside of the annual conference.
These Professional Development workshops are to support the mission of the organization and ASTE’s commitment to ongoing learning of its members throughout the year (not just during the annual conference).
ASTE members or groups of members may propose virtual workshops to support the professional development and ongoing learning of ASTE members. Virtual professional development workshops are defined as a highly interactive set of activities, delivered via Zoom, to support current ASTE members’ professional growth. Workshop proposals should be clear about the goals of the workshop as well as the virtual engagement strategies facilitators will use as part of the presentation.
The committee invites a wide range of topics for virtual professional development workshops including but not limited to:
- Strategies and materials for teaching preservice and inservice science teachers
- Support for publishing scholarly work
- Gaining tenure and promotion
- Developing lines of inquiry
- Supporting advocacy at local, state, national and international levels
Biannual submission deadlines will be March 31 [for workshops starting July 1- January 31], and October 31 [for workshops February 1- June 30]. Calls for proposals will be issued in advance of each deadline.
Proposals will be reviewed by the ASTE Professional Development Committee using this rubric.
If approved, virtual workshops will be sanctioned and advertised by ASTE and will utilize the ASTE Zoom Account. Participants of workshops will fill out a short feedback form following the workshop and, when relevant, a recording of the event will be made available to members on the ASTE website.
